Restoration Events

New Start students restoring trail
New Start students restoring community trail at Seahurst Park.

Restoration projects and planting native species are important actions you can take to care for the watershed.

During the summers, ESC works with partners including the Highline School District, New Start High School, King County, and City of Burien during the Avanza Program.  This program gives high school students the opportunity to earn school credit while earning pay for doing a restoration project at Seahurst Park.  ESC naturalists work with the students to help them gain restoration skills and learn more about watershed health.

Occasionally, ESC  participates in the City of Burien’s Adopt-a-Park program in Seahurst Park, Shorewood Park, and the Salmon Creek Ravine through work parties to remove invasive plants and restore sites in these parks with native plants.  For more information, please contact Restorations@EnvScienceCenter.org.
