Fall 2024 Schedule

Every fall in Washington, the pacific salmon make their way back to our freshwater rivers and streams to spawn. ESC invites you to come celebrate the return of the salmon to our local waterways by attending one of our salmon related celebrations!


October 12: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM

Liberty Park, Renton, WA

Join ESC at Liberty Park for Renton’s newest salmon festival! Come observe migrating salmon, become a salmon scientist, create family fun, and learn more about how you can help salmon to become a salmon hero.

This family-friendly festival will be held partially outside in Liberty Park as well as inside our building behind the Renton Library and next to the baseball field. Free parking can be found near the tennis courts as well as over by the skate park. See our contact us page for address.

No registration, but just stop by to participate!

These festival is in partnership with the Renton Parks and Recreation, Renton Library, Renton Forestry Department, Renton Neighborhoods, Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group, and Mermaid LunaLee.

October 19: 2:00-4:00 PM

Tukwila Community Center

The Environmental Science Center and Green Tukwila are taking over the lobby of the Tukwila Community Center for a two hour event teaching families all about Salmon. This bilingual event will offer opportunities to watch wild salmon, dissect a real salmon, create salmon art, learn about the watershed and find ways you can help the river! So join us for a hot chocolate and become a salmon expert!

This event is geared for families and a translator will be at each station that speaks Spanish.

We welcome all ages, identities and backgrounds to come and learn about all 5 species of Salmon! No registration, just stop by to participate!


October 26: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM

Liberty Park, Renton, WA

Join ESC at Liberty Park for hands-on science and crafts to celebrate Halloween. Dissect a salmon, mix your own color changing potions, and more to become a spooky scientist during this drop-in science time! Great for ages 2+. Costumes encouraged!

This family-friendly drop-in science time will be held inside our building in Liberty Park, building behind the Renton Library. Free parking can be found near the tennis courts as well as over by the skate park. See our contact us page for address.

November 23: 12:00-2:00 PM

ESC and the Mary Olson Farm welcome the salmon back to our stream! Observe spawning salmon, become a salmon scientist by engaging in water testing and habitat observation, and learn more about the role salmon play in the ecosystem. Presented in partnership with the White River Valley Museum and Mary Olson Farm.

The Mary Olson Farm is located on Green River Road, to the north of the Auburn Golf Course. The parking area is located just north of the farm, and is connected to the farm by a short trail. Parking spaces are limited, and visitors are encouraged to carpool to this event.
