Giving Tuesday is a global movement to foster support for our communities. This day of giving is a great way to give back to people and organizations that are working to transform their community. By donating to ESC during our 2023 Giving Tuesday campaign, your donations will go toward our school programs to support our work of bringing safe and positive environmental education experiences to students in south King County.
NEW for 2023. Now through December 31st your gift will be matched thanks to Neighbors of Seahurst Park and their dedication to protecting and preserving Seahurst Park for many generations to come.
What could your donation help fund?
There are many ways your donations could help support ESC work toward our mission of making our programs more inclusive for students. 2023 donations will go toward supporting our school-based programs. Some examples could be:
$10– Buy snacks for a field lesson to fuel our next generation of environmental leaders
$25– Buy rain gear for students to comfortably explore outside
$50– Buy a testing kit for students to investigate their local waterways
$100– Fund translation services to make outdoor learning accessible to our community
$150– Fund the bucket of supplies for one local teacher attending our Teacher PD series
$300– fund one high school student in their 5-week restoration internship
What school programs does ESC offer?
Field Study Experiences– Our field studies are designed to help students learn about their local ecosystems both in the classroom and beyond. Beach Heroes gives students in grades K-3rd the chance to visit the beach for a low tide walk while Salmon Heroes gives students in grades 4th-8th the chance to visit a local salmon spawning stream.
Teen Mentorship & Job Training– ESC works with multiple middle and high schools in the area to provide mentorship and educational opportunities in environmental science. Big Picture middle school students work with staff to do restoration at Seahurst Park every other week in collaboration with the City of Burien. Additionally, Summit Atlas middle & high school students train to work with staff naturalists to help facilitate our field study programs for younger kids!
Paid Teen Restoration Internships– High School students from Innovation Heights Academy have the opportunity to work as a paid restoration intern and learn job skills in this partnership with the City of Burien and Shark Garden. Students learn what goes into a restoration project such as invasive plant removal techniques, how to plant native vegetation, and even lead restoration events for the public.
Teacher Professional Development– Our professional development series are designed to give teachers the tools and confidence to successfully lead quality outdoor learning experiences with their students. Teachers will understand how the health of the watershed in our local communities has an impact not only on our iconic salmon but on those of us who live here.
